Seven and a half years of bad luck🪐
What is Sade Sati? and what to expect in this cosmic rite of passage.
How to move through the seven and a half years of Saturn without fear..
Today I’m explaining Sade Sati which is known as seven and a half years of “bad luck” (aka Saturn🪐)
Everyone has heard of the old superstitious belief that if you break a mirror, it will bring you 7 years of bad luck.. but you may be less familiar with Vedic Astrology’s seven and a half years of Saturn, also know as Sade Sati or “seven and a half years of bad luck”
This period is when the heavy burden of Saturn's transit over your Natal Moon (which represents your inner shoreline, emotions and mind) bears down of you, bringing waves of confusion and challenges, which sends you into a deep haze..
Personally I liken it to looking through a dirty window. You can still make out some things, but you can’t see very far into the distance - there’s no clarity, but please don’t worry, honestly it sounds scarier than it actually is (I’m on the tail end of mine as I’m writing this)

What actually is it?
Sade Sati is the 7+1⁄2 years long period of Shani (Saturn).
It is when Saturn transits the sign of your Natal Moon (the sign the Moon was in when you were born) and it has three phases within the 7+1/2 years.
Here is the thing.. you cannot possibly avoid this transit.. everyone will go through at least two of these periods in their life (hopefully - if you have a long and fruitful life). They are said to have unlucky effects and contain some really tough times but they are also periods of powerful character building and purpose alignment. There is always light and dark.
So if you do a quick google on Sade Sati, you’ll find scary phrases like “financial losses”, “chronic health conditions”, “danger”, or even “death” but we don’t practice fear-based astrology here, so please don’t be scared if you are in Sade Sati or are coming into it soon.. this is a cosmic rite of passage that everyone goes through.
I myself am only two months off finishing up my 7.5 years of Saturn and in that perceived “unlucky” time I’ve closed a business, had two healthy children (full disclosure: I lost my first baby and then I had 2 high risk pregnancies that followed, so not all sunshine and butterflies), I studied, started Soma Tide, sold a house and bought a house in an amazing place that I love so much.
Seven and a half years of Saturn feels like:
things being harder than normal
having a lack of clarity or direction
feeling foggy or lost
not knowing the next step or hesitating to take it
and more..
If you’re curious about when your Sade Sati is occurring, here are the current timings for Sidereal Moon signs currently experiencing or about to experience Sade Sati:
Sagittarius Moons - ending in January 2023
Capricorn & Aquarius Moons - in duration
Pisces Moons - beginning in January 2023
The three phases of Sade Sati (Seven and a half years of Saturn)
1. Shani Sade Sati: 'Rising' Phase
The Rising phase of Sade Sati. This is when Saturn is transiting in the sign before your Natal Moon sign. It can indicate financial loss, feelings of being trapped or isolated, having unknown critics and haters, undertaking on fruitless and aimless travel.
What to expect in the rising phase:
Issues created by haters and problems at work
Pressure and tension at home
Unsuccessful risk taking
Financial stress
What you can do:
Saturn delays but never denies, so be patient that you will get results eventually. This is a good time to listen and learn.. don’t risk it for the biscuit.. If you increase your awareness and understanding and prepare for within this phase will help your experience in the following ‘peak’ phase. Trust and have faith that everything will play out as it should.
2. Shani Sade Sati: 'Peak' Phase
The peak phase of Sade Sati is the most difficult. Saturn is transiting in the same sign as your Natal Moon. When he is over natal Moon it can bring depression, anxiety, health problems, defamation, identity and relationship issues, isolation, hardship and sorrows. Success is still possible in Sade Sati but will require a lot of hard work and effort. You may feel limited and not get the full results from your hard work.
What to expect in the peak phase:
Low immune system
Depression and sadness
Irrational fears or phobias
Lack of vision, clarity, and ability to take action and make life decisions
What you can do:
Slow down, practice gratitude and acceptance for where you are and the lessons you are learning. Prioritise space, introspection, self development and your spiritual practice.
3. Shani Sade Sati: 'Setting' Phase
This is the 'setting' phase of Shani's Sade Sati. This is when Saturn will be transiting the sign after your natal Moon. You may experience misunderstandings and financial stress in this time but it may feel easier when compared to the first two phases. Life expenses and habitual spending will be in force so it is important to practice self control and responsibility with money, food and values.
What to expect in the final setting phase:
Financial stress
Fear, anxiety and disconnection
Not being able to speak out or communicate what you are feeling
Questioning life values
Old patterns and childhood conditioning/trauma sneaking in
Dark thoughts, low mood and pessimistic outlook
Slow results or progress (expect delays)
What you can do:
The setting phase is about slowing down and replenishing what you have lost during the rising and peak phases. Having more fear doesn’t help in this time as Saturn invokes fear and anxiety as a form of protection.
Focus on quelling vata dosha in your inner landscape (aka calming an ungrounded mind), practice grounding mental practices and cultivating more peace and purpose.
Diamonds are formed under pressure 💎
Sade Sati could be likened to the process of creating a diamond.. the crushing weight over time is what makes the the diamond so strong and so valuable.. although this time is difficult and brings a lot of external pressure to your internal world, which can inevitably leads to cracks that need support and reinforcements.
Saturn’s Sade Sati actually leads us towards great spiritual strength and resiliency, it crushes weaknesses of the mind, outdated pattern and increases your capacity feel and to want to be of service to aid others.. Things become crystal clear on the other side.
